The Hoshino Gallery was opened by Mr. Keizo Hoshino (1943-) and Mrs. Mamiko Hoshino in 1973 in Kyoto. The works of art held in this gallery have been chosen by Mr. and Mrs. Hoshino based on their inherent quality, rather than specific art school or reputation. In contrast to the contemporary method of showcasing only masterpieces created by famous artists, this gallery aims to provide a more liberal way to appreciate and enjoy art.

This exhibit showcases around 120 Japanese and Western works from the Hoshino Gallery under the theme of “Girls”, spanning over the Meiji, Taisho and Showa periods. Through this exhibit, you can see the wide variety of ways that modern Japanese artists portray girls. Experience the many hopes and dreams, as well as hardships and sorrows, that young girls experience on their path to womanhood through charming depictions from a plethora of artists.
