Overview

Jean-Pierre Melville was a master of French noir who had a profound influence on the Nouvelle Vague. He perfected a solid style of film noir by depicting the complexities of human beings, both good and evil, and the bonds and betrayals between men. His films have influenced not only Nouvelle Vague directors but also filmmakers from around the world, including Quentin Tarantino, John Woo and Takeshi Kitano, and many remakes have been made.
This year's spring screening features four of his films, including his feature directorial debut, an early masterpiece gangster film, an immortal masterpiece starring Alain Delon and a collaboration with Jean Cocteau. We invite you to discover the world of Melville, a director who continues to shine even today.
