Story

A girl wanders into a magical world where ping-pong balls live. There, she encounters the bashful boy Ping and the energetic girl Pong. They play together, make a journey, and have a lot of adventure. And then...

Description

This play was carefully created especially for children by Makoto Sato, a director versed in the appeals of theatre (he is also the art director for Za-Koenji Public Theatre); tupera tupera, the popular duo that has produced picture books including "Make Faces" and "Panda Public Bath"; and Keiko Takeya, a dancer who explores the possibilities of free physical expression.

A dreamy story is spun by familiar objects such as hundreds of ping-pong balls, string, spoons, transparent tubes, a dryer, and a plastic umbrella. The play is a melange of live music, rhythmical singing, comical performances, graceful dancing, humorous art, and various other elements. Together they fire the children's imagination and deliver the joys of live theatre to them. The play is a well-known repertory piece that has been continuously staged for the last ten years at Za-Koenji and other theatres across Japan. It is highly recommended for a first-time experience of real theatre.
